మీరు ఫలాన వాహనం ఎక్కి తరలిరండి అని సంబోధించడం ఎక్కువగా ఎవరు ఎక్కడా విని ఉండరు...
మరి దిగ్దేవతాహ్వానంలో ఎందుకని ఒక్కో దిగ్దేవతకు ఒక్కో వాహనాన్ని సూచించి వాటిని అధిష్టించి తరలిరండి అని ఆచార్యులు శృతిగానం గావించడం...?

So let's discuss the importance of such iconic representions and the relevant importance of their inclusion in to the established spiritual process of 'inviting the gods, demi gods to make their explicit celestial presence for the annual Brahmotsawa ceremony......
It is very well known that India
as a nation has always established it's supremacy in every given sphere by considering and worshiping nature as the primordial God and thus all the elements that form or that are a part of the nature are very well considered as Gods and are respected and worshiped accordingly......
Whether it was the duration when
Hotmail was just invented that has revolutionized the e-mail world since then or
in this 21st century where in we have surpassed the virtualization and moved on to the containerization as the standard of modern day software delivery methodologies and stepped up from the legacy On-Prem implementations to the lean, simple yet significant, cost effective, selective, and above all customer friendly software cloud implementations ( let it be known as SaaS or IaaS or PaaS or any other fancy terminology being used to refer to the decoupled business logic implementation from the consumer faced tier of the service implementation as per the involved SLAs )

Software runs on Hardware and Hardware is made of chipsets and chipsets are full of integrated circuits and Silica in their root element.....
Only God creates the Sand needed to extract the Silica and not humans.... And thus it is all God and the nature that is the unarguable core element of the entirety of the global IT industry and all of it's allied domains......
(The world has moved from IPv4 to IPv6 addressing mechanism however this move is yet to be harnessed completely to it's full capacity which would happen in the upcoming decades that would witness an exponential surge in the IT&Comm services' usage across every single electronic device in the world...)

'digveavataa vaahana vaibhawam'....
The 8 cardinal directions, their rulers, and the corresponding mounts are..
E - Indra, the heaven's chief, on his celestial white elephant 'Airaavatam'...
SE - Agni, the fire God on his Ram ( the symbolic representation of the sun sign Aries )
S - Yama, the God of death, on his Bull
SW - Nirruti, the lord of demons, on a human being as his mount
W - Varuna, the Lord of water, on a Crocodile.
NW - Vayu, the Lord of Air, on a Stag
N - Kubera, the Lord of materialistic riches, on a horse
NE - Rudra, Lord Maheshwara, on his white Ox.

The white Ox.
are these just some randomly picked up living beings to get assigned as their mounts or is it that they have a certain associated analogy for such assignments..?
Obviously the latter....Let's see how it goes..
1. An elephant is unarguably the most magnificent living being for...
it's Physical strength despite being a veggie,
it's super human sensual intelligence in a variety of aspects,
it's ability to remain controlled under a mahout and work for his/her needs,
it's meta-physical prominence for being known as one of the 5 abodes of ShreeLakshmee...
and so on and so forth.....
Have you ever observed that in the renowned AshtaLakshmi stotram,
"Gaja Lakshmi" is the only named attributed to ShreeMahaalakshmi going after an animal elephant for being her abode...
( As explained by sadguru Shree Changanti gaaru, after the Cow, which is Paradevataa herself for that it doesn't belong to the regular Brahma SrushTi.. an elephant is the only animal that is considered as her abode..)
Haathi hai Sabkaa saathi....Jahaa hotahai haati...vaha hotaahai ShubhLaabh SukhSamruddhi ki barsaatay..
Hence the 'Airaavatam', that has emanated from the 'Ksheerasaagara Mathanam' was gifted to Lord Indra because being the heaven's head he is supposed to be owner of RaajyaLakshmi and SwargaLakshmi that can reside only in an elephant for that it remains as sober as one wants it to be and it can be as much catastrophic as it can become upon getting provoked..
A ruler is ought be a Jack of all trades and a master of many so it is imminent on him or her to remain sober or harsh as per the situational requirements...
And thus Lord Indra is rightly associated with the 'Airaavatam' , the celestial white elephant as his mount.....
2. Agni, the Lord of fire on the South East with a Ram as his mount....Sheep / Ram / etc are known for their aggressiveness for even smallest of provocative actions which is the nature of Fire element for which it is handled with extreme care unlike the other 4 cardinal elements ...It can be observed that the wool procured from the Ram / Sheep is used to sustain the heat element of the body and they also have fire element in an embedded form..If you have ever observed the friction caused by woolen cloths resulting in visible sparks because of the embedded static fire element...
When a few sheep are on their way many other sheep would simply join them on the go and in no time it becomes a huge Herd to be controlled properly....And so is the case with the Fire element.... It engulfs each and every supportive element available around in to it to become a massive raging fire in no time if not controlled appropriately...
And it is well known that the Sheep / Ram are the most common form of meat consumed world wide which aggravates the Rajoguna tattwam as per the corresponding intake....
( Sathwaguna, Rajoguna, and Tamoguna tattwam can be considered in a superlative comparison order as below...
Sathwaguna : The most active.....
Rajoguna : The moderately active....
Tamoguna : The least active...
states of the mind and thus that of all of it's actions resulting out of embracing the respective tattwam....
3. Yama, the Lord of Death on the South with a Bull as his mount. I'll discuss this element some time later...
4.Nirruti, the Lord of Demons on the SW with a human as his mount...
There is a well known saying that goes..
" An idle man's brain is a devil's workshop..."
And so BhagawadNaamasmaraNa has been advised to all the human beings should they ever find themselves idle instead of leaving any void in the thought realm to engage themselves with the various spiritual realms for their well being...
A human mind should always be engaged in some useful physical or mental work else which it would always be demonic and can be disastrous too... So the demonic engagement is always on a human being's idle state...
For those of you who have knowledge on the ancient Indian science of Vasthu Shastra, the most important aspect of any proper house construction would be
" How much heavily loaded and occupied is a construction's SW part and how much open / unoccupied / spacious is it's NE part..."
which would be the governing factor for it's over all prosperity....."
The most troublesome home with all sorts of unbearable problems is that house which is the otherwise....
i.e., when a house is heavily loaded in the NE part and is unoccupied, open, not so heavily loaded in it's SW part it would draw the ire of the Lord of all rudraganamulu Rudra residing on the NE part and Lord of the demons Nairuti residing on the SW part making their life horrible from all aspects....
In simpler words, the geo-spatial energy flow of a house flowing from SW to NE that governs the life of it's inmates is like a water flow through a water pipe...
In a given rectangular or square area of any construction, leaving Nairuti the SW part open, empty, unoccupied, would be like leaving a big hole present in the beginning of the pipe uncovered...So it will drain out all the water and thus hardly would there be any water available at the destination which mars the very purpose of using a water pipe...
And when the NE part is heavily occupied / blocked then its like the destination end of the pipe doesn't have a proper outlet...So all the water will be spilled over via the other perforations on the pipe which isn't the purpose we are using a water pipe for...
So the best way of using a water pipe is to cover all the perforations in the beginning either by sealing them permanently with tape or some other adhesives or by placing some heavy objects on them temporarily and open up the destination end by cutting off any hindrances at the outlet... by which we can collect maximum water being supplied from the source with minimal loss.....
Quite similarly, as per the ancient Indian Science of Vastu Shastram, as long as a construction remains heavily loaded, occupied, blocked on it's SW part and unoccupied, unblocked, open on it's NE part, then maximum geo-spatial energy flow will be available to all it's inmates making the house a happy and a prosperous home...
( Of-course things do take sometime to yield their corresponding results....Even if you plant a hybrid tree it takes a couple of years to yield it's corresponding fruits..isn't it..?)
Don't insult a scientist just because his proven experiments aren't yet comprehendable to your minds filled with arrogance and disrespect....
Because when he is done with his primary R&D implementation tasks, he would start focusing on all those who have hurted and insulted him when he was busy with his primary work and would use the same science to create disasters in your life to take revenge on all the insult, abuse, physical and mental torture you made him to go through owing to your arrogance and unmindfulness.
Because a water pipe remains the same whether you simply use it to collect the water or to hurt someone by deliberately hurling it at higher speeds to hit them at the maximum inertiatic power available from the accumulated centrifugal force over the period of time in that process of hurling continuously.....
5.Varuna, the lord of Water on the West side with a Crocodile as his mount.....
The jalaadhidevata Varuna is known for his hold on certain aspects like good life of the progeny, sustainable prosperity, etc...
Merely having an entity is different from having a great hold on that entity....
Its the latter that makes the possession of an entity worth enough to be called as successfully possessing an entity...
For e.g, possessing an asset say a bike or a car is different from having a great hold on driving them...
Though an amphibian, a crocodile holds a great exertive power that establishes an unparalleled hold for it in the waters...
For those of you who are aware of the below famous Telugu Bhaagavata padyam from the GajendraMoksha Ghattam....

కరిఁ దిగుచు మకరి సరసికిఁ
గరి దరికిని మకరిఁ దిగుచు గరకరి బెరయన్
గరికి మకరి మకరికిఁ గరి
భర మనుచును నతల కుతల భటు లరుదు పడన్
మొసలి ఏనుగును మడుగులోకి లాగింది. ఏనుగు మొసలిని గట్టు పైకి ఈడ్చింది. రెండూ ద్వేషం, పట్టుదలలు పెంచుకొన్నాయి. “మొసలిని ఏనుగు తట్టుకోలేదు, ఏనుగుని మొసలి తట్టుకోలేదు” అనుకుంటూ పాతాళ, భూలోకాల శూరులు ఆశ్చర్యపోయారు.
The elephant has a strong hold on the land while the crocodile has a strong hold in the water.....
So the former doesn't want to lose its hold by getting away from the land...
and the latter doesn't want to lose its hold by getting away from water....
So they keep on fighting for a really long time by being conscious about their respective holds on either sides of the shore ..
(Just incase should you wish to learn the schematics of a crocodile's hold in water,
do visit the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary located in Bhadradri Kothagudem district,
to see hundreds and hundreds of crocodiles and observe their physical dynamics of exercising an inescapable hold on their target with their extremely powerful jaws....)
Thus Varuna is rightly assigned a crocodile as his mount.....
6. Vayu, the Lord of Air on NW with a Stag / a male Deer ("Kastoori Mrugam") as his mount....
For those ardent devotees / disciples of Shree ChaaganTi sadguruvu gaaru the below words discussed by Guruji should ring a bell...

Air and fragrance go hand in hand....
One cannot appreciate fragrance without appreciating the air that is it's carrier....
Stag / Deer are the ones with the most random, unpredictable, haphazard moves....Even at higher speeds they can just shift their direction in a moment...
There is an adage in Telugu that goes...
" leaDiki leachindea parugu.... "
which means a Stag hardly stays reserved as it always keeps moving here and there...
All these are indeed the qualities of the Air element...
And thus a Stag is rightly assigned as the mount for VayuDeva...
7. Kubera on the North, the lord of materialist riches with a horse as his mount....
( a few say that he too shares a human as his mount...)
A horse is known for it's Power,
it's ability to carry us from one place to the other at astonishing speeds,
it's ability to draw even chariots at higher speeds,
As everyone knows, in those days when vehicles weren't a part of human life,
it was a personal horse that used to be the iconic vehicular identity of a person...
For eg, the horse named
'Chetak' for MaharaanaPrataap,
'Krishna' for ShivaajiMaharaaj,
'Bucephalus' for Alexander the great'
'Sarangi', 'Pavan' and 'Baadal' for
Jhansi-ki-Rani Smt Rani Lakshmibai,
and so on and so forth....
Materialistic riches too are of similar characteristics... They elevate the standard of living from a mediocre state to higher appreciable states...
( It need not be applicable to the standard of intellect and wisdom which are based on the individual efforts of a person irrespective of his materialistic strata.. )
And in this highly materialistic Kaliyugam,
the power of money is known to every one for that "Dhanamoolam idam jagath" is the well known verse attributed to this Kaliyugam that runs on money as its driving factor...
Hence a horse is a mount for the lord of all the materialistic riches, Kubera.....
8. An Ox, more specifically a white Ox as the mount for Rudra residing on the NE frontier...
Lord Rudra is more than a dikpaalaka or digdeavata...
He is indeed the controller of all these elements at his supra consciousness state of SadaaShiva who pervades the entire universe....
For those who remember sadguru Shree ChaaganTi gaari words on an Ox as below...
"Eddu GiTTalloa amrutam unTundi....aa Eddu bhoomini tana amruta sparshatoa pavitram gaavistoo seadyam gaavinchaDam taggi..Tractors etc vaaTitoa ivaalTi seadyam ekkuvaina kaaraNamga kanTichoopu mandaginchaDam anea rugmata chinna pillalloa kooDaa ekkuvaipoayindi..."
In the Shaastram, an Ox symbolizes Dharmam...( The word 'Vrushabham' is synonymous for 'Dharmam' that has no exact word available in English...)
And since times immemorial this Sanaatana DevaBhoomi is known as DharmaBhoomi and KarmaBhoomi...
Infront of Lord Shree Venkatehswara
Temple in Tirumala, ( the eon God of Kaliyugam ) there is a display board that states..
" Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha..."
which means, If you protect Dharmam it will protect you.....
which also means
If you hurt Dharmam it will hurt you accordingly....when the time is ripe as per Karma siddhaantam...
Other than the universal Lord, who else will be the ruler, the protector, the harbinger of such universal supreme trait of Dharmam....
When the ShivaMangalaashtakam extolls the Lord as below,
Vrusha aroodaya bheemaya
Vyaagra charmambaraayacha,
Pasunaam pathaye thubhyam
Gowrikanthaya Mangalam. ||2||
it doesn't only mean that he has an Ox as a mount...
it means that he is the Dharmadevata himself...
And thus Lord Rudra has an Ox as his mount...
So when it is said that,
for an utsawam conducted by Chaturmukha Brahma gaaru after whom it is known as Brahmothsawam, it is a mark of respect and obligation for all the dikpaalaka / digdeavata to make their presence along with their mounts to rejuvenate the various micro realms of a spiritual arena so that they are sustained with the intended cosmic power factors that keep driving the macro realms of all the living beings visiting the Temple premises successfully and peacefully by blessing them accordingly....
it essentially means that all these gods' / demi gods' geo-spatial energy elements and their corresponding geographical representations are activated by the corresponding Vedic Chants so that the sound realm comprehendable by the living beings of this mortal plane is appropriately 'activated and inter connected' with the associated cosmic realm equivalents to draw in the requisite form of divine energies for the well being of everyone who believes and respects them.....
