For those of you who have had a chance to listen to the glorious pravachanams of sathguru Shree ChaaganTi gaaru, especially the discourses of
"UmaMaheshwara Vaibhawam", "ShivaraatriVaibhawam", "ArunaachalaVaibhawam,
"ShivaanandaLahari",
"SoundaryaLahari",
etc...
( Guruvugaaru, in one of his pravachanams, have stated to listen to
"ShivaanandaLahari" first and then "SoundaryaLahari", which would bless a devotee much abundantly....
Hence, I too wrote in the same order ...)
the inseparably magnanimous ShivaShakti tattwam would always remain an
awe-inspiring unfathomably intellectual topic of discussion filled with immeasurable knowledge and wisdom of both this mortal plane and the various spiritual realms that spawn beyond the all obvious human realm that we are bound to by the virtue of being a human being...
The famous verse quoted by guruvugaaru is "JanmaanikokkaShivaraatri"..

So, let's now discuss the parameshwara vaibhawam as "Layakartha" or more importantly as "PraLayakartha"...
The very point of celebrating a Shivaraatri festival during the entire night of MahaaShivaraatri is to signify the importance of Parameshwara praLaya tattwam....
As often misunderstood,
" Harudu anagaa Layakartha" doesn't mean, the one who simply gulps in everything in to him....
He is the husband of Kaashi Annapoorna devi, hence hunger is always out of question for him if the aforementioned verse is to be taken as an explanation of Hara tattwam... 😊
However,
As per the vyutpatti of the word "ShivaLingam"
"Leeyatay Gamyatay iti Lingam",
it always holds good in saying so.....
Then, what exactly "HarateetiHaraha" means..?
Why is it that he has to subsume anything in to him and what makes him great in doing so to be called as Layakartha...?
What happens if he stops his vihita dharmam of "samhaaram" or "pralayam" performed by Lord Rudra and continues only with his "Eeshwara" and "SadaaShiva" tattwams signifying the
"Tirodhaanam" and "Anugraham"
( "Encapsulation" and "Blessing" ) as explained in the Lalitaasahasranaamaavali...

As explained by sathguru Shree ChaaganTi gaaru....
Samhaara Prakriya or the prakriya performed by Lord Rudra is categorized in to 3 types....
1.Swalpakaalika layam...
2.Dheerghakaalika layam..
3.Aatyantika layam...
Our everyday's typical activities of taking a short nap / night's sleep are termed as
Swalpakaalika layam.
Dheerghakaalika layam implies the demise of a person after which the jeevaatma of that particular person would reach the RudraBhoomi, one of the the abodes of Lord Rudra, where in it is protected from the various ugra Ganaalu that are under the control of Lord Rudra.....
If he weren't to be a Smashaanavaasi, then out of no control on them, all those various ugra Ganaalu would only disturb the peaceful life of one and all....
Sathguru ShreeChaaganTi gaaru, in the "SampoorNa Raamaayanam", pravachanaalu, has explained why king Dasharath's corpse was protected in a "taila droni", ( a tub containing various herbal oils to protect a body from its decay...) until Bharatha who is informed of the same, is back to Ayodhya from his uncle's place without spreading the demise news across the kingdom...
A kingdom without a king would leave his entire reign in a completely chaotic state and thus easily becomes susceptible to get invaded by unscrupulous anti-social elements.....
The same case is applicable to lord Rudra as pralayakartha to reside in a smashaanam. But for his control on all the typical elements/gaNaalu that reside in a cremation area, peace in the lives of various living beings would not flourish...
Hence we see Lord Rudra's statues / photos in the areas designated for burials / cremations...
And the final Aatyantika Layam is about the lokalayam, the submerge of the entire world during the end of a manvantaram after which a new cycle would get repeated....
Shareeram --> Karmendriyaalu --> Gnaanendriyaalu --> Manasu -->
Buddhi --> Jeevaatma --> Paramaatma.
Body --> Physical sense organs --> Meta-physical sense organs --> intra Consciousness --> Embedded wisdom --> Soul --> Lord.
is the typical order for each and every "action and reaction" cycle that constitute our life.....
1. A mosquito pricks a person on his/her hand..
2. Hand, a physical organ, would send a signal to another unfathomable physical organ, the brain, to process it....
If the person is awake...
3. He / She would stab it with a proper focus on the target with the help of the active intra consciousness....
If the person is partially asleep...
3. He / She would stab it in a random / non-focussed fashion via a sub-conscious routine that gets auto invoked by the brain cells which aren't yet in to the deep sleep...
If the person is in a slumber...
3. He / She would not be able to respond to the mosquitoe's prick, because the intra consciousness is now completely dormant by getting subsumed in to the
soul and is thus completely detached from the physical and meta-physical sense organs...
Let's take the worldly example of a typical ticket tracking system.....
Qa Team logs an S2 ticket that gets auto routed from "Open" to "In Dev Queue" or
"In Sus Queue" state,
Upon being assigned to the concerned Dev personnel, it would get in to the
"Dev work in progress" queue.
After the issue gets fixed by Dev, it would enter "awaiting Qa closure" queue.
After the Qa completes the verification and the validation of the provided fix,
it would get stacked up in the "Qa closed" queue and this cycle might get repeated if it gets re-opened upon the recurrence of the issue.
The final state of a ticket "Qa closed" is neither an absolute final state ( because it might get re-opened ) nor the initial state nor any of the interim states but is an important state that holds all the fixed bugs for the management's reporting needs...
As a matter of fact, the higher management is just bothered about how many S1/S2 bugs have been logged against a particular on-going release and how many of them have made it to the final "Qa closed" state, without any probability of getting re-opened, so that they can decide the velocity of the release' progress to drive it towards Alpha and Beta checks in order to proceed with the GA formalities and the associated Sustaining service packs' and patches' planning based on the deferred and customer reported bugs against the allied release vehicles....
Hence the so called final state of
"Qa closed" is indeed an important factor for the higher management to juggle through various metrics to decide the release cadence of an enterprise level J2EE product line.
So is the case of "PralayaPrakriya" performed by Lord Rudra the Layakartha...
"Layam" is neither an initial state nor an absolute final state of complete dissolvement and certainly not any of the variants of the all obvious various active states....
However, it occupies an extremely important place in deciding the quality of life and its progress towards a successful Deerghakaalika layam..
( which in-turn would lead a Jeevaatma towards a new journey in most of the cases based on the merit factor of the
"Sanchita, Praarabdha, Aagaami" accounts earned across the multiple past lives.... )
Imagine a world where,
people do not shun their mortal coils for several centuries....
people do not have sufficient place to live...
people do not have sufficient food to eat...
people do not have sufficient air to breath...
people do not have sufficient hospitals to remain bed ridden...
and so on and so forth....
with only SrushTi and Sthithi prakriya and no Laya prakriya....
A city with so many great things in it isn't a great city as long as its municipal and sewerage system isn't an effective and scalable one inline to its citizens' growing needs...
And quite similarly, a world with so many great things and happenings isn't a great one as long as Lord Rudra doesn't perform the requisite Laya prakriya....
If it is certain that he would anyways gulp us in to him then why should we pray / worship him....??
Why Maheshwara Aaraadhana is important and why is it said...
" Naa rudro Rudramarchayaeth...."
For those of you who have had a chance to listen to the explanation of the below phrase recited by sathguru ShreeChaaganTi gaaru....
"
1. anaayaasayna maranam...
2. vinaa dainyeana jeevitam.....
3. deahaantay tava saayujyam....
deahimay paarvatee patay....
"
1. Having a simple, non-complicated demise is indeed the biggest blessing one can have from God.....
2. Having a life where one doesn't need to stretch his/her hands in front of someone for anything...
( i.e., being self-reliant in terms of having financial stability which would inturn take care of all other needs )
3. Reaching lord's abode after leaving the mortal coil....
are the ones that are wished by a devotee...
This ask clearly elicits the importance of LayaKarthaa's anugraham without which none of the above are feasible...
When a devotee visits and worships Kaashi Vishwanaath or Arunaachaleshwarar, etc , he alters the lines so very well so that one can leave his mortal coil with ease by chanting Eeshwara naamam....
When a devotee visits and worships Kaashi Annapoornaa devi and Vishaalaakshi maata, they get blessed profusely so that a devotee would never have to suffer with hunger in any of the lives and would always be taken care of by her broad eyed vigil...
( Vishaala Akshi means not just having broad / wide eyes...
It implies that KaashiVishaalaakshi would always attend to the needs of the devotees whereever they are present in the world so that a devotee doesn't need to suffer with the lack of any entities required for their peaceful living.....)
And finally "Eeshwara saayujyam" or Moksham / Salvation as termed by many, is the final ask any devotee can ask for...
It is to be noted Moksham / Salvation is of 4 types...
Saalokya, Saameepya, Saaroopya, & Saayujya....
of which our
Sanaatana Dharma Sampradaaya elders who have been worshipping lord ShreeShaila Shree "Bhramaraambaa samayata Mallikaarjuna Swaamy" since times immemorial, have very wisely framed the sentence asking for the most meritorious one that is the "Saayujya Moksham" after attaining which there would be absolutely no need for a Jeevaatma to reincarnate for any purpose whatsoever.....which wouldn't be the case with the other 3 preceeding ones....
i.e., Even if a Jeevaatma attains any of the Saalokya, Saameepya, Saaroopya Moksha sthithi, it would still be possible for a reincarnation saga for some reasons / incidents which might again leave the Jeevaatma in to the continual cycle of re-births based on the Aagaami Karma sanchayam....
Thus, the anugraham or layakartha plays a key role in fine tuning the magnitude of the above blessings for a devotee as explained above....
Now coming to the point of what is the significance in observing the Shivaraatri festival during a night and not during the day time......
As explained above, the Swalpakaalika layam in our everyday's typical slumber happens as per an auto routine that gets invoked by the brain cells between 9 PM to 9 AM. So, in order to observe the various changes our consciousness is subjected to during this Swalpakaalika layam by lord Rudra, one has to remain awake during this process to see the various changes / states our various body organs go through as per the hindrance caused by our "forceful state of remaining awoke" so that it will help us understand the all obvious importance of the laya prakriya and that of the Layakartha, and thus of his 3 various levels of pralayam as explained above...
I would like to wind off the explanation with one simple statement...
" If we can observe each and every cell of our body and the various state transitions it gets subjected to very carefully, then we can understand the entire universe and its unfathomable phenomenon for that it is said.

And thus the mighty NirvaanaShatkam blessed by HH Shree AadiShankaraachaarya expounds the true
" I " as the all pervading supra consciousness.....
न च व्योम भूमिर्न तेजॊ न वायु: चिदानन्द रूप: शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥1॥
मैं न तो मन हूं, न बुद्धि, न अहंकार, न ही चित्त हूं
मैं न तो कान हूं, न जीभ, न नासिका, न ही नेत्र हूं
मैं न तो आकाश हूं, न धरती, न अग्नि, न ही वायु हूं
मैं तो शुद्ध चेतना हूं, अनादि, अनंत शिव हूं।
