Shree Plava naama samvatsara 2022 BheeshmaEkadaashi / ShreeVishnuSahasraNaamaJayanthi parvadina Shubhaabhinandanalu....ЁЯЩПЁЯНХЁЯНжЁЯНиЁЯШК
For those who have had a chance to listen to at least a few discourses on the mighty "ShreeMahaabhaaratam" rendered by sathguru Shree ChaaganTi gaaru,
Bheeshmaachaarya / Shaantanava / DevavratuDu is a pivotal role in the legendary Mahaabhaarata itihaasam...
One of the AshtaVasuvus
(named Prabhaasa) having been cursed by Vashistha Maharshi for illegitimately stealing Kaamadhenuvu / Surabhi under his control, is born as the 8th Son of Shantana Mahaaraaju and Gangaa devi (both these folks had to take a human birth on the planet earth as per lord Brahma's curse for misbehaving in the "Brahma gaari Sabha"). The other 7 Vasuvus who helped the 8th Vasuvu, in stealing Kamadhenuvu, too were born as the first 7 children to Gangaadevi and ShantanaMahaaRaaju but were immediately drowned in to her own waters soon after their birth as per an agreement between Gangaadevi and ShantanaMahaaraaju according to which SantanaMahaaRaaju isn't supposed to question Gangaadevi on any of her actions. If he does so, she must be allowed to leave him forever. She drowns their first 7 children, who are essentially the first 7 vasuvulu, as per their request before taking birth as her children, so that they can leave this mortal planet soon after taking the birth as per the curse incurred upon them for helping the 8th vasuvu, to return to their respective spiritual plane. Upon this weird act of submitting their just born babies to her own Ganges river waters, Shantana MahaaRaaju gets furious and questions her as to why is she doing such weird acts of losing her own children by submitting them in to the river waters. As per the agreement between them, if GangaaDevi is questioned by ShantanaMahaaraaju then she must be allowed to leave him forever and she does so by leaving their 8th child to him that is the 8th vasavu who has to live a human life on the planet earth as per the curse incurred upon him for stealing the Kamadhenuvu. He is thus named as Deavavrata / Shaantanava (Son of ShantanaMahaaraaju) and later on takes the name of Bheeshma as per a pledge that he undertakes for the sake of his father to remain unmarried forever.
BheeshmaPitaamaha, fondly called by both the Paandava and Kourava sena,
for being a common grand father for both of them...,
( PaanDu Mahaaraaju / DhrutaRaashTra / Vidura are the 3 children blessed to 3 women by sage Veda Vyaasa so that the ChandraVamsham continues to prosper by having a progressive clan. )
essentially plays the role of
"A dependable big man behind" for all the (100+1=101 Kauravaas)+(5 PaanDavaas).
However, he had to be on the side of Duryodhana as per his word..
1. The greatness of BheeshmaPitaamaha is obviously evident from the fact that he has
" Icchaa Maranam / Death only when he wishes for it" as a boon. So, he is literally invincible by any of the opponent and can leave his mortal coil only when he wishes to do so.
2. It is needless to talk about the valor of the unconquerable Bheeshma, who was approached by none other than the valorous savyasaachi Arjuna as per Lord Shree Krushna's advice, and was asked by Arjuna saying....
" Taata, nuvvu DuryodhanuDi pakshamlo unDi yuddham chaystunnantavaraku memu Kauravulanu gelavaDam asaadhyam. Kaabatti nuvvu eTlaa chastaavo cheppavaa taata...."
for which a big hearted and a broad minded grandfather answers his lad Arjuna,
"Nenu dhanassu chetabaTTukoni unDagaa nannu nirjinchagala monagaaDu ee Bhuvipai ledu Arjuna. Naa pai vyaktigata kaksha toa ee janmaloa ShikhanDi gaa janaminchina daanni naaku edurugaa kadanarangamloa nilabaDelaa chei... kevalam kshatriyulatoa yuddam cheasea nenu appuDu naa dhanassu pakkana pettesta....appuDu naa paiki baanaalanu sandhinchi nannu nelakoolchina tadupari kauravulapai gelavagalavu..."
Such an unparalleled personality was Bheeshma, who has sacrificed his life for the chandravamsham up until his last breath....
Another example of the mighty Bheeshma's valor would be,
Lord Krushna, who pledges that he would not hold any weapon to fight with anyone in the KurukshetraYuddhaBhoomi and would only be a charioteer to Arjuna, all of a sudden forgets his pledge and jumps in to the battlefield to kill Bheeshma saying.....
" nannu viDuvu Arjuna...ivvalaa ee BheeshmuNNi vadalanu.....nenu neeku rathasaaradhi gaa unDagaa neepaiki inni baanaalu sandhinchi gaayaparustaaDaa ee BheeshmuDu..."
3. Even after he was laid to rest on the arrow bed shot by Arjuna , BheeshmaPitaamaha having blessed with the boon of "Icchaamaranam" waits for the Uttaraayana puNyakaalam to shrug off his mortal coil in order to merge his consciousness in to Lord Krushna Paramaatma up until which he remained active on the AmpaShayya despite the fact that there wasn't even an inch of his body without an arrow shot. If the archer is Arjuna and the bow is his Gaandeevam, and the guide is Shree Krushna Paramaatma, then it is needless to talk about the sea of arrows that would get shot on to the opponent in almost no time...
When Bheeshma Pitaamaha says that he is thirsty and needs to drink water in order to speak something, Arjuna immediately strikes a Vaarunaastram in to the earth to pump up the paataalaGanga to quench Bheehmaachaarya's thirst.
Gangaaputra after having GangaaJalapaanam right from the waters of Bhogawati, renders the unfathomably magnanimous ShreeVishnusahasranaama stotram and blessed the mankind with such a glorious prayer that keeps reverberating in every nook and corner of the BhaarataDesham even today....
4. So, it is evident that but for the Bheeshmapitaamaha's voluntary sacrifice, Paandavaas' victory over Kauravaas would have been a wild goose chase..
5. And the most interesting and intricate dharmasookshmam explained by sathguru ShreeChaaganTi gaaru, about such an unconquerably valorous Bheeshmaachaarya with "Icchaamaranam" as a boon, in having such a pathetic end by suffering on an AmpaShayya, the bed of arrows, that was inflicting every inch of his body with unbearable pain is...,
when Draupadi was being insulted in the KuruSabha after DharmaRaaja has lost everything including his wife Draupadi by betting her in the MaayaaJoodam a "deceptive dice game" devised by a crooked Shakuni to make Paandavaas lose the game to expel them from the kingdom....
she was bitterly crying and pleading all the "big men" present in the Kurusabha to protect a woman and her modesty being outraged by an arrogant bastard named Dusshaasana, and no one came forward to answer her pleas. When she has questioned the veracity of the deceptive dice game to which her husband DharmaRaaja was made a scapegoat to, saying,
"NannoDi TannoDayna...
TannoDi nannoDayna...."
no one has expressed at least a decent concern towards a woman's pleas in such a sad situation and when she has questioned Bheeshmapitaamahaa, the eldest and the common big man for all of them, on why does he stay calm and doesn't speak for her to protect the modesty of a woman despite her pleas to protect the Dharmam in being a common well wisher for Paandavaas and Kauravaas,
Bheeshmapitaamaha answers in an unkind manner, saying,
" DharmaraajantaTi vaaDay eami anaTledu kaabaTTi ika nenu eami anagalanu...."
and it is for this sin, Bheeshma had to pay off his Karma phalam by getting laid on the arrow bed in such a horrendous way....

spelled by thousands and thousands of devotees / reciters / readers / listeners / of ShreeVishnuSahasranaama stotram everyday across the world keeps his fame very much alive forever....
And the fact that only Bheeshma Pitaamaha is accorded with a unique respect of receiving Tila Tarpanaalu from any and every man in the world as performed to their deceased elders / ancestors, makes him an paralleled historic hero whom the world will continue to remember forever.....
